15 July 2005  Astra Mark 1 Takes Top Billing  Press Information, for immediate release The sensational 4-wheel drive Vauxhall Astra Mark 1 created by owner Anthony Ball won the inaugural Chairman’s Cup at this years VBOA National Rally held at Billing Aquadrome on July 9/10th. Each of the 22 member clubs of the VBOA were invited to nominate a club champion who would be judged by public ballot to find the “best in show”. Anthony, a member of the Vauxhall Sports Car Club said: “I can’t believe it. I only finished the car on Saturday morning and drove it for the first time to Billing in the afternoon. This is my first major award and what a great one to start with! An E-Type Vauxhall Vagabond convertible and a Calibra tied for second place. Anthony’s Astra sports a 4-wheel drive system and turbocharged 2 litre engine from a Calibra. “I shortened the floor pan of an insurance write-off and modified the Astra body to fit”, said an elated Anthony.
