From Rockets to Royalty
Ian Coomber, VBOA Chairman

On July 8th and 9th Billing Aquadrome will be host to a pre-war Opel experimental rocket car and two cars once used by the Royal family. Its all part of a “back to the future” display at the VBOA National Rally in association with CCC Insurance Limited.

Some twenty special cars and prototypes, including legendary Wayne Cherry styling concept cars Silver Aero, Silver Bullet and Black Magic, the sensational 1960s SRV and XVR dream cars and modern Vauxhall masterpiece the VX Lightning speedster concept car, will form an impressive centre piece for the weekend’s celebration of all things Vauxhall Bedford and Opel.

The Opel RAK2 rocket car is a faithful replica of the car that held many speed records in the 1930s and will be supported by the latest record breaker from Opel/Vauxhall, the gull-wing door ECO Speedster diesel.

Royal interest is provided by a unique Vauxhall Viceroy estate car used by Her Majesty the Queen - complete with corgi-proof floor covering - and the electric CF van used for many years by the Duke of Edinburgh.

The VBOA National Rally will feature twenty six owners clubs covering the Vauxhall Bedford and Opel brands and there will be nearly 2000 cars on display over the weekend covering the period from 1920 to the present day.
